The project consortium convened at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona on November 19th and 20th to review project progress, address risks, and plan the next steps. The first day focused on each Work Package (WP) update, while the second day delved into technical discussions and workshops.
As we enter month 24, marking the halfway point of our project timeline, significant progress has been made. WP2 ‘Identification and enabling innovative business models for energy storage integration with grid users’ have examined the relevant regulatory framework and network codes and WP3 ‘Enhanced AGI Design for inclusion of innovative forms of storage’ is developing a set of generic open-source simulation models for AGI topologies. Some results are already publicly available here. These work packages will continue to assess, evolve, and update their findings. The use cases for the lab tests are already established (see WP4 – deliverable here), and we are now leveraging inputs from these WPs to advance the lab tests.
During the second day of the AGISTIN Project General Assembly, the partners engaged in technical discussions on topics such as connection network codes, grid forming, AGI (Advanced Grid Interface) modelling assessment tools, and control design for modular AGIs. Three user case approaches were presented: EV chargers, irrigation canals, and green hydrogen production. The team then split into two groups to debate the pros and cons of an AGI. This will help clarify the interface’s benefits, challenges, and implementation strategies. The day concluded with a brainstorming session to address project hurdles and devise strategies to better achieve the project objectives.
In conclusion, the meeting highlighted the significant progress made so far and set a clear path for the next steps. The collaborative efforts and technical discussions have provided valuable insights that will drive the project forward, ensuring that we meet our goals and deliver innovative solutions for energy storage integration.
